Why we exist
We all want a safer, cleaner, healthier, and more vibrant Hilo.
We all want fewer people living on the streets, more families finding stability, and more individuals contributing positively to our community.
Maluhia Pathways was created because we believe lasting change happens when communities come together to help one another.
Housing may be one piece of the journey, but true transformation requires much more. Participants receive support through life-skills training, financial literacy, employment assistance, mentoring, recovery support, counseling resources, community involvement, health and wellness programs, and personal development opportunities.
The solution to homelessness and instability will not come from one organization alone. It will come from neighbors helping neighbors, businesses supporting local families, volunteers sharing their time and talents, and community members investing in the future of Hawaiʻi Island.

Housing is one component, not the entire program. True transformation requires wraparound support that addresses every dimension of a participant's life.
Practical skills for daily living, personal responsibility, and long-term independence.
Budgeting, saving, credit building, and the financial foundations for stability.
Career readiness, job placement support, and pathways to sustainable work.

We envision creating supportive micro-communities where participants can rebuild their lives surrounded by positive influences, accountability, encouragement, and opportunity.
These communities become stepping stones that help individuals regain confidence, develop new skills, establish healthy habits, and reconnect with society.
As participants grow stronger and more independent, they transition from receiving support to contributing back to the community that helped them succeed.
By bringing our community into these supportive environments, we help participants build meaningful relationships and learn how to become active, productive, and engaged members of society.
